I’ve been editing the All Things Azeroth podcast for a few months now. I took on this duty for a few reasons. For one thing, it’s a fun challenge to take a bunch of someone else’s audio (each episode consists of anywhere from two to six different files) and mold it into a coherent piece. More importantly, I do make some money for my time, and money is good. As the show’s tag line states, All Things Azeroth is indeed “your World of Warcraft podcast.” And I’ve never been a World of Warcraft player. That is, until today.

Earlier this evening, All Things Azeroth celebrated its 200th episode with a live show via streaming service Stickam. I, along with the rest of the show’s current contributors (including Jen!) were invited to sit in and be a part of the show. Towards the end of the program, I made an offhand comment about having a desire to play WoW but that money and time concerns were keeping me from being able to do so. Just after that, something pretty cool happened. An All Things Azeroth audience member (user name “brianski”), who was in the live show chat room, purchased a World of Warcraft account as a gift for me! I was totally blown away by this person’s generosity. I’m looking forward to getting into the game, though I’ve been advised that, due to server maintenance, I should hold off on starting until Wednesday. Now that I have the account, I figure I can use that along with the fifteen dollars I’ll be saving a month on my cell phone bill to cover the monthly WoW fee and that’ll handle the financial side of things. In terms of time, well I can make the time. I’ve been needing something fun to do while taking breaks between working on various projects, and I think World of Warcraft will be a welcome distraction during those times.

I’ll post some more about my experiences in game as I get into them. Who knows? Maybe this’ll lead to a whole new blog project. Not like I don’t have enough of those already…

Last year, Jen won a piece of artwork as a prize in a contest held by All Things Azeroth. The print was made by Cadistra, who produces a World of Warcraft-related webcomic, and also sells Warcraft-inspired artwork through her website. Jen’s been wanting to get this artwork framed ever since she got her hands on it. Thanks to a generous birthday gift she received last month in the from of a Michaels gift card, she was finally able to do just that.

The complete frame, including the artwork. I had to take this at a bit of an angle to avoid glare. That’s why it’s cropped kinda funny.

The framing clerk at Michaels did a good job of helping Jen pick out the frame and matting. It’s hard to tell from these photos, but the colors in the artwork really pop in this framing. Jen picked up the frame last Saturday, and I hung it on the wall, near her computer desk. She’s really happy with the art and the frame, and I think it looks pretty cool, too.

A closeup view of the artwork.

It’s that time of the year again. Time to nominate your favorite shows for the Podcast Awards. In the past, I’ve regarded these awards as a waste of time. But I’ve caved. It’s either due to social media peer pressure, or I’m just getting soft in my old age. Below is my list of nominees. I don’t listen to shows that properly fit into all awards categories. But I didn’t want to just leave those categories blank, so I put in the names of shows that I felt could at least sorta fit those categories. Furthermore, I subscribe to a lot of podcasts. There’s no way I could nominate all of them. So, don’t feel bad if your show doesn’t show up on the list.
