We spent the New Year’s weekend moving things around. The plan was to take the stuff in the back room, and swap it with the stuff in the front room. I had the idea to do this last November, because I thought it’d be good to move the studio into its own space, and to make our living area a little more open and comfortable. We’ve been living with this new configuration now for about a month, and we like it.
I took a lot of photos. The deconstruction/reconstruction of the front room went something like this:

We moved the couch out of the back room a few days before the Big Move began.

My desk, as it was being taken apart.

The dining room table and benches had to be taken apart and reassembled. They’re put together better now.

I had to assemble the new TV stand. The next day, we moved the aquarium and our new TV was delivered.

I just took this picture tonight. (Yes, the TV has a cover.)
Now the back room.

After we moved the couch out of the room, Jen took a couple hours over the span of a few days to clean the floor. It was pretty bad.

We’re planning on eventually turning this closet into a vocal/isolation booth.
Many more photos can be seen here.

Thanks for this post! It clears up the confusion I had from all of your most recent Flickr photos. I knew you were swapping rooms but wasn’t sure exactly which rooms. I think a video walk through would be good!

Must be a relief to have that done. I think we might have the same aquarium. Although ours is in the basement right now. I’m planning on bringing it upstairs though and setting it up for the first time in this house.
Now a quick question. I couldn’t tell from the photo, so I was wondering: Are the dining table and benches bolted to the floor or are they resting on normal legs?

hey guys, looks like you have been busy, nothing like a change. I think you will feel better when its all set up. Nothing like a studio set up and you can walk away and close the door,I notice erk lives in our studio more than in his bedroom. bedroom now he only sleeps and watches TV.

David: The table isn’t bolted to the floor. It does have legs under the benches. We actually bought the table setup from a taco stand on the north side of Chicago and replaced its original tabletop with the Ikea tabletop you see in the photos. I’m also using another tabletop just like it as part of my desk now. (Resting on top of filing cabinets. Classy.)
Andy: The video is a good idea. I’m hoping to get a new camcorder this month, so that may happen.
Judy: Considering Erk produces so many different podcasts, I can’t see how he’d have time to be anywhere else besides the studio.
