Bus of the lost

October 8th, 2009

Went for a walk earlier today. And after I had crossed the railroad tracks, I noticed a SLO RTA bus slowing down on the other side of the road. It seemed like an odd place for an RTA bus to be in the first place. But I don’t know all of the RTA routes that well, so for all I know, that bus went by there all the time. Anyway, then the bus started to slow down which made things weird. Then it pulled into a dirt lot next to the train tracks, which is even weirder. I thought maybe it was taking an odd way around to get into a nearby fueling station until it turned around to face towards the road. After that, the passengers on board began to clear out and line up near the train tracks.

I stopped to see where the people were going. Was this an undocumented bus stop I was somehow unaware of? Seemed doubtful as I use the local bus system a lot, and this is very close to where I live. (Coincidentally, I was reminded of a September 11th conspiracy theory about how passengers from the “hijacked” planes were all secretly taken to a military base somewhere and offloaded while dummy planes were used in their places. NOTE: I don’t really believe that stuff. It’s just in my head.) A few minutes later, a train sounded its horn in the nearby distance, and the passengers moved back towards the bus and away from the train tracks. The whole time, the bus sat at an odd tilt. I’m guessing that there was some kind of mechanical issue, and the driver was testing the bus out to see if it was still OK to drive. At this point, I decided to carry on with my walk. A bit further on up the road, I noticed the bus drive passed, so I guess whatever the situation was, it got figured out. Still, it was kinda strange. (A few more photos can be seen here.)

Maybe it was a ghost bus………

I wonder if it was a rail fan tour?

That seems unlikely to me, Erk. Maybe if this was a tour bus. But not with an RTA bus

I think Erk is right, probably something to do with the Central Coast Railroad Festival that you have in town this week.
