One of our cockatiels passed away about an hour ago. Her name is Little One. She’s the one on the right in this photo, taken just a few days ago.
She lived from 1992-2009. Pretty good for a cockatiel. She was easily the smartest and toughest of all of our birds. As it often is with birds, her decline was sudden and unexpected. When I saw her yesterday, she seemed just fine. Maybe there is something to the idea of “when it’s your time…” To say that we’re sad about this would be an understatement.
We’ll miss you, Little One.

A few people I know have been participating in one-thing-a-day-for-a-year projects. Most of them having to do with uploading one photo a day for an entire year. I thought that seemed like a cool idea. But I didn’t want to just do a one-picture-a-day project. Instead, I thought I’d try and post a blog entry, haiku of frustration or podcast to one of the Phantom Power Media sites, each day. And I was successful for 25 days. Not a bad run, I guess. Jen and I took a drive up to Cambria, CA yesterday, and we recorded some audio in the car for a potential Hyper Nonsense episode. But the quality of the audio is rather poor and not really worth releasing. If it had been OK, I would’ve eventually released it as my entry for yesterday. And of course I could’ve cheated, and just posted something somewhere new with yesterday’s date. But then, what’s the point? Overall, I don’t look at the close of this project to be a failure. Just doing it has made me a bit more conscious of some of the things I’d like to get done on a daily basis, and whether or not I’m procrastinating on them. I also think that ths project was feeding in to the anxieties I spoke about last week. So this is probably a good time to put it to rest. Still, it was interesting while it lasted.

I’m proud to say that I was chosen as the Listener of the Episode for show #99 of the Brains Matter podcast. This us a great honor, because you have to be really, really smart to be considered for this distinction. I mean, like top ten percentile? Top five percentile? Of the Earth’s Most Smartest Individuals. I’ve heard that they’re going to actually stop producing the podcast at episode #100, because there aren’t enough Smart People left to feature as future Listeners Of The Episodes. (NOTE: The previous statement about the podcast ending at episode #100 has no basis in reality or fact.)
If you’d like to possibly be anywhere near as Smart as Me one day, I’d highly suggest that you begin by subscribing to the Brains Matter podcast. And spending a lot of time on Wikipedia.

If you haven’t figured it out, Jen and I tapped in to our local video store’s five-for-five special. Today’s movie review is for the animated feature “Futurama: Bender’s Game.” I’m syndicating this from Nathan Lott’s Rental Reviews site. Comments are welcome here.
