Year 33, day one

July 12th, 2009

Yesterday was my 33rd birthday. But the events surrounding my birthday began on Friday night, when I went out to dinner with my family. We went to local eatery Village Host, and everyone (besides Jen) had pizza. I also played a couple games of pinball with Bo. In related news, I suck at pinball. I got some cool cards and nice gifts from the family. It was a lot of fun.

I decided to save the gifts that Jen gave me, as well as a present from my ma, to open on Saturday. I was happy to find that all of these remaining gifts were T-shirts, as I was in serious need of some new ones. Here’s me, wearing one of the shirts that Jen gave me.

Later in the day, we went out to run some errands. We visited a few shops at Madonna Plaza. I bought an iced tea maker at Bed Bath & Beyond.

I haven’t tried it out yet, but I’ve heard good things from others who own iced tea makers. Perhaps I’ll write a review in the future. We had lunch (again) at Lahaina’s. Instead of fish and chips, this time we both opted for burgers. Here’s Jen’s Lahaina burger.

She surprised me with this choice, as a Lahaina burger comes with ham, pineapple and teriyaki sauce. But she went with it, and she said it was really good. I had a burger as well, though mine wasn’t nearly as fancily dressed. And yeah, this place makes a tasty burger. Afterward, we did some grocery shopping at Traders Joe. For my “birthday cake,” I picked out some mini carrot cake muffins.

These things are pretty awesome. Discotrash had invited us to a party out in Avila in the afternoon. But Jen’s been coming down with a cold/sinus infection, and she noticed that she was feeling dizzy on the drive home. So we decided to stay home. I spent the rest of the afternoon getting caught up on computer-related stuff, and in the early evening I decided to go for a walk.

We finished out the day by ordering in some food for dinner and watching an episode of “Star Trek.” Overall, it was a pretty good day. (More photos available here.)

Jen’s burger is making me hungry! Happy Birthday, Shawn!

Curious. What does an ice tea maker do that is different from me sticking tea bags in a pitcher? Cause if your way is better than mine, I want one!

I’ve only used the iced tea maker once, so I don’t have a thorough opinion on its abilities just yet. But overall, I find it makes better-tasting tea than what you get through infusing tea in the fridge (your method). I’ll be posting an in-depth review on this site after I’ve used the iced tea meker a few times.
