MUsings

July 29th, 2009

(Sorry for the puntastic title on today’s entry.) I’ve been considering moving to a new web hosting company so I can take advantage of some of the features of WordPress MU. I really like my current web host. But I would have to upgrade to a new hosting plan in order to run WordPress MU. And because of the fact that our network of sites serves up about 50 GB worth of data per month (primarily in the form of audio and video podcast files), the cost of this new plan would be too high. After doing some research, I found a hosting plan that would give me a complimentary WordPress MU installation along with enough storage and bandwidth to keep our sites running into the foreseeable future. And the price per month isn’t much more than what we’re paying now.

Barnyard animals. We got 'em

July 25th, 2009

Today, Jen and I took the bus up to Paso Robles for the California Mid-State Fair. Jen didn’t want to drive, and we wanted to avoid a repeat of last year’s drunk bus fiasco, so we decided to go during the day. We picked up SLO RTA Route 9 in downtown San Luis Obispo and headed to Paso Robles.

Jen's summer vacation, day 0.5

July 23rd, 2009

Jen finished her stint as a summer-school teacher earlier today. She’s now got a few weeks off before the fall school season begins. She decided to kick things off with a trip to the local farmers market. I took pictures.

Many of them, of produce.

Food review: California Pizza Kitchen

July 22nd, 2009

Last week, on our anniversary, Jen and I had a meal at California Pizza Kitchen here in San Luis. I don’ know that there’s much to be said at this point about C.P.K. that hasn’t already been said. But I thought I’d write a short review, anyway.

New banners

July 20th, 2009

I added about 35 new images to the rotating banner at the top of this site. I started putting them together yesterday, and after making around 50, I found that I didn’t like any of them. It’s the first time I’ve added any to the site since the site launched back in 2007. Back then, all of the photos I had were taken with my old Epson digital camera. But now, I’ve got photos that have been captured by either our new Olympus digital camera, my old Sony cell phone or my iPhone. So, it wasn’t as easy to make the new banners as it used to be. All three of these devices capture images at different resolutions, so I had to constantly change settings in Photoshop to get things to come out right. Anyway, the new banner images are there. Enjoy.

(Also, this was on my to-do list.)

Photo Frunday

July 19th, 2009

Yesterday, we attended the Central Coast Renaissance Faire. I took a lot of pictures.

For various reasons you can hear more about here, we didn’t go in costume. But, here’s a picture of Jen on the shuttle bus we rode to the faire grounds. Just because, I like to take pictures of Jen.

I recently submitted this Lol to the cheezburger.com network.

I don’t know what’s required to get it featured on the main site. But, it’s there. Here’s the original, for comparison.

Anniversary day

July 15th, 2009

Back in 2004, in the days leading up to my birthday that year, Jen asked what would I like for my birthday? I told her that I wanted to get married. And, to keep the story short, we did get married. On July 15th. That makes today our five-year anniversary.
