Throoughout the whole mess that is the Great Financial Bailout of 2008, many of the politicians involved seemed to have fallen in love with the phrase, “From Wall Street to Main Street.” Well, there is no Main Street here in San Luis Obispo, CA. So, sorry, politicos. Your cheap attempt at soundbite-based pandering won’t work on me. Now, the first time I hear one of these geniuses say, “From Wall Street to Marsh Street,” or perhaps, “From Wall Street to Higuera Street,” then they’ll have my attention. Or even better, why not totally blow my mind with something that strays from the script? How about, “From Madison Avenue to Johnson Avenue.” That’d rule.

Our current PM used the phrase “Working Families” throughout his election campaign and continues to use it heavily in his Govt’s rhetoric. Just what a working family is up for debate, but the whole country isn’t just full of families.
Our banking system is very sound and our banks were no where near as badly exposed as US and UK banks. Things aren’t great here share market and economy wise, but the aren’t dire either.
The problem with most politicians is that once elected they appear to become an elite within society. They get their own driver and car, intrastate, interstate and overseas travel allowances, life time pensions available as soon you quit politics etc. Whilst I’m all for democracy, it’s time our democratically elected politicians wake up and smell the coffee and get on with the job of representing those of use who elected them to office.

Heh, great post Shawn.
The annoying thing is that the bailout actually didn’t pass until bribery was used. What a corrupt system we have. It should have been rejected and done with.

You arre so right….
I thought I was going to watch the debate for the entertainment value…. but was disgusted in the fact that neither candidate seems to understand that this crisis is changing the financial market forever. There will not be any money to pay for any of these policies.
There has to be a fundemental paradyne shift in the way global financial system, it has not caught up to the fast and dirty 21st century.
Lets face it, a greedy capitalist is a greedy capitalist whether he lives in the U.S., Saudia Arabia or Russia…..
PS. thanks for the easy verification, those are rouugh on the visually impaired….

Late to the discussion, but in total agreement. I moved out here to the Middle of Nowhere in the Middle of Somewhere (midway tween SLO and Pismo) after years on one of the streets Randy Newman sarcastically ‘saluted’ in “I Love L.A.”. When it makes it from Wall Street to Ontario Road, I’ll be pleasantly surprised – uh, stunned. Of course, any mention of L.O.V.R., Madonna Road, Halcyon, Niblick, Tefft or Bubblegum Alley would be cool too.

I agree. They should also say: “From Wall Street to Jo Sick Pack Road.” When you live in the back woods there are no streets or avenues.
