2008 Podcast Awards nominations

September 27th, 2008

It’s that time of the year again. Time to nominate your favorite shows for the Podcast Awards. In the past, I’ve regarded these awards as a waste of time. But I’ve caved. It’s either due to social media peer pressure, or I’m just getting soft in my old age. Below is my list of nominees. I don’t listen to shows that properly fit into all awards categories. But I didn’t want to just leave those categories blank, so I put in the names of shows that I felt could at least sorta fit those categories. Furthermore, I subscribe to a lot of podcasts. There’s no way I could nominate all of them. So, don’t feel bad if your show doesn’t show up on the list.

Life got you down? This new website can help!

September 18th, 2008

“Times are tough.” Tell me about it. No, really. Tell me about it! On our new website Haiku of Frustration. Those of you who’ve been following Jen’s MySpace blog (or her podcast) are probably already familiar with these haiku. For the uninitiated, Haiku of Frustration are little poems about all those things in life that frustrate the hell out of you! Work? Love? Technology? Teh Internetz? Those subjects and anything else you can think of could easily inspire one of these poems. Haiku of Frustration is open for submissions from everyone. So head on over to the site and let us know what’s bothering you. We’ll post it to the site, and unless you choose to post anonymously, you’ll receive full credit for your frustration creation. Come on! There’s only one haiku so far and it’s looking rather lonely.

Shawnogram featured in an O'Reilly Digital article!

September 4th, 2008

Writer/podcaster/musician/vlogger/everything-elser Michael W. Dean wrote a great article for the O’Reilly Digital Media website about video podcasting, and the article features my website as an example. The article was originally written as a sidebar piece for Dean’s upcoming book (that he’s co-writing with the great Alan Lastufka) but the piece had to be cut due to space constraints. The book is focused on YouTube, but the gyst of the article is that it’s not wise to put all of one’s vlogging eggs into one virtual basket. Michael thought my site was a good example of a site that has a YouTube channel, but also offers videos via podcast as well. The article is informative and well written, and I’m proud that my site was included. Check it out!

Labor Day lament

September 1st, 2008

It’s Labor Day weekend. For some people, it’s an extra long, three-day weekend. To many, Labor Day signifies the end of summer. Around here, it’s just the beginning of another work week. Me and Jen both have to work. All three days. We did have a bit of a cookout on Friday, though. It was just the two of us, and we enjoyed some sausages and corn cooked on the grill:

The food was great. I hadn’t ever cooked corn on the grill before, and wasn’t sure how it’d turn out. But it was awesome.

The rest of the Labor Day weekend? Meh. I had my mind set on typing a long post about disillusionment, political bullshittery and the overall fucked-up nature of these modern times. But I’ve got to get to sleep soon so I can get enough rest to go to work later.

Hope your Labor Day weekend has been good so far. That is, if you’ve been lucky enough to have a weekend at all.
