Weigh-in and work stuff

I have a talking scale. And I was disappointed yesterday after it told me my current weight is 251 pounds. That’s a three-pound gain from last week. It just proves that I’ve still got a lot to do before I can truly get on the path to real weight loss. One thing, is that I need to cut back on the amount of soda I drink. I can’t help myself. I need carbonated beverages like most people need coffee. I refuse to drink anything with aspartame in it, and aspartame can be found in most major diet sodas. I’m going to try and find a diet soda that’s made with Splenda instead. Then I can begin to ween myself off of regular, full-calorie sodas.

Over the last week, I have seen a nice improvement in my blood pressure. There are several factors that may have contributed to this. But the definitive point has to do with the future of my job. Soon, I’ll be getting off the night shifts and after that, I’ll be working from home! My employer has agreed to let me telecommute. It’s a mutually beneficial arrangement, as it allows me to work a more flexible schedule for them, and I no longer have to worry about transportation. Only problem is that I need to buy some equipment, and I’ll also have to get another computer. It’s definitely worth it, though. I’m just having some trouble figuring out which computer to get. In order to work from home, I need something that runs Windows, and I’d like to get an Intel Mac Mini and use Parallels Desktop. But I’m not certain that will work. I can still just get myself a plain ol’ Windoze box. But I’d hate to have another computer ’round the house just to accomplish this one task.

But overall, this is one problem I don’t mind having.

That’s awesome news about your job. Glad that they are going to let you work from home. Having to get a new computer isn’t a bad problem unless you’re trying to find a good deal.

“Finding a good deal.” I’m starting to have eBay fatigue because of that. I’ve decided to just find a decent Windoze box for the job. I haven’t found any conclusive evidence as to how well audio I/O works under Parallels. Plus, it’ll save me some money.

I’m thinking about keeping my PC and just buying a PowerMac. That way I can still do all my Windows and Linux related tasks. I keep seeing single processor G5’s for under $700. They have good specs, most of them have a gig of RAM. The GPU’s only have 64 MB of RAM but they are dedicated and presumably (correct me if I am wrong) can be upgraded. That’s what I’m thinking about doing now. The only problem with that scenario is that I told my younger brother, sister and Dad that they could have the PC I have now when I got a new computer. *sigh* Sometimes I’m just too nice! But, I’m thinking that maybe I can save up an extra $150 and pick up an iMac G3 600 MHz. It’d work for them, even if it only had 128 MB of RAM. They don’t do a whole lot. They’d only be surfing, IM’ing and filling their Shuffle’s up with music. I saw some on eBay and a couple of other places for that price.

The Mini is still a possibility. It’s just that integrated graphics card that’s got me a little weary of it.

I think I’ve become obsessed with shopping around, especially considering the fact that I haven’t saved up all the money yet! LOL.

I don’t know how good of a Windows machine you’ll need because I’m not sure of what you do, but if you’re going to pick up a cheap PC, get one that has Windows XP Pro on it instead of Vista. That’s my recommendation anyway. The reason is because PC manufacturer’s have machines with only 512 MB of RAM and pre-loaded with Vista, they SAY they’ll run, but, they only do that so they can advertise at a lower price point. The other reason I suggest trying to get a machine with Windows XP Pro is the bargain basement machines will only have Vista Home, MAYBE premium which to my knowledge do not include as good of networking support as Windows XP Pro did.

Of course, I’m sure you know these things. It’s pretty much the same scenario for Apple products. Except, Apple is smart and only has ONE version of their operating system.

Christ, I’ve rattled on long enough. Mostly about MY issues. LOL.

I know about the XP. I wouldn’t get something with Vista. Aside from the fact that it’s a resource hog, I’m not even sure if the software I use for work will run on it. I need to find something with a 3 Ghz processor, at least 512 MB RAM and WinXP. I’m watching some eBay auctions. We’ll see what happens. And the G3 iMac is a good idea for your family. If they don’t need a powerful machine, that’ll work just fine. Jen was using one up ontil a few months ago.

Cool. I’m sure you’ll let us know how it works out. Good luck with the auctions.

raspberry lemonade crystal light and raspberry ice are delicious and only 5 calories a glass. The other flavors arn’t so hot. have you ever thought about carbonated water and adding a lemon or lime wedge or flavor?

That’s not a bad idea, Janice. I guess it could be OK as long as the flavor was strong enough. Carbonated water on its own is pretty bad!
